Partnership between city and schools pays off in grant

Talk about something to be thankful for during this past holiday season.
In December it was officially announced that the Hamtramck Public School District was awarded an $800,000 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation to replace the artificial turf at Keyworth Stadium.
That grant also awarded the city over $100,000 to create a master development plan on renovating Veterans Park.
These are huge gifts.
The Wilson Foundation has been giving grants to communities to encourage young folks to be physically active. On almost a daily basis during good weather you can see dozens of teens and youngsters playing soccer at the stadium.
The stadium is also home to the now professional soccer team, the Detroit City Football Club.
The team attracts thousands of fans to their games, and in return it is also paying for improvements at the stadium.
Kudos for the Wilson Foundation grant goes out to the school and city officials who have formed a partnership to apply for further grants from the Foundation.
This is what happens when public officials work together.
There are plenty of good things happening in the city. And it’s very likely even more good news will be coming this year.
