At this cup cake shop, anything goes

Faness Allen has opened a new business in town that specializes in cup cakes. Not surprisingly, it’s called Cupcak’n.

What if you can design your own cupcake without having to go through the baking process by yourself?

Well, a new shop in town, specializing in a unique interactive cupcake concept, can do that. 

Cupcak’n, located at 2756 Evaline, allows customers to customize their very own cupcake from an assortment of eight different unsalted flavors, 14 varieties of frostings and approximately 25 various toppings. So if you are craving a sweet potato cupcake with cream cheese frosting topped with white chocolate, you have come to the right place. Cupcak’n will have it in your hands within a few minutes.

Owners Faness and her husband, Anthony Allen, reside in Hamtramck and debuted their interactive cupcake shop this past week.

“We both work hand-in-hand. I make the cupcake, he makes the delicious frostings,” she said.

She was inspired by the idea when her husband kept baking muffins for her in different flavors. She said she changed the concept from muffins to cupcakes, and wanted to give customers the experience to design their own cupcake.

Faness said her training in web design has helped in her new trade.

“That whole design and creativity background in me inspired the concept of build your own cupcake,” she said.

Faness said the shop will also introduce a special frosting each month depending on the holiday. For the month of November, they offered cranberry frosting.

“I think our cupcakes are going to hit what everybody likes,” Faness said.

The shop is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
