Hamtramck voters overwhelmingly rejected all three city ballot proposals.
Partial election results were released by the city clerk’s office near midnight.
As usual, voters here overwhelmingly supported the Democratic presidential candidate – this time being Joe Biden’s turn. National results at the time of this report was posted were not completely known.
More election local results will be released later.
The Hamtramck ballot proposals rejected by voters were:
Proposals 1 and 2 asked voters whether to eliminate from the city charter the language of the establishment of the police and fire departments as well as their respective chiefs.
The third proposal asked voters to allow the city to increase a property tax that funds the pension cost of police and fire retirees from a half mill to up to 10.5 mills.
Tuesday’s election day could not have been better, weather-wise: It was sunny and the temperatures were in the mid-50s.
But regardless of the weather, Hamtramck voters mostly had already voted by absentee ballot prior to election day. Over 7,000 voters participated in this election.
Hamtramck has over 9,000 registered voters.
