Breaking news … Suspect arrested in sexual assaults

The Hamtramck Police Department announced today (Wednesday, July 24) that a suspect is in custody regarding two recent sexual assaults.
The suspect has not been identified pending a warrant to be issued by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police are still declining to release details of the assaults.
At one point the department did not know if it was just one suspect or two.
Police previously described the suspect as a black male, about 6-foot, and of medium build.
“Each case involves a female victim that was approached by a suspect while walking alone,” said Police Chief Anne Moise in a press release.
The department is still advising women that if you have to be alone while walking on the streets, be sure to pay attention to your surroundings.
“If you feel unsafe or are concerned about suspicious activity, please go to a safe location, preferably somewhere open to the public. Contact police immediately by dialing 911 or calling direct to (313) 800-5280,” police said.
