Crime Log …8/3/12

Crime Log is a compilation of the most newsworthy, informative or interesting items from off of the Hamtramck Police Reports from between the dates of Thursday, July 26 and Wednesday, August 1.

From Thursday, July 26:

 A woman living on Oklahoma reported that she was awakened in the middle of the night by an unknown black male attempting to assault her. No further description of the man given. Report made at 8:56 a.m.

 A woman living in the 9300 block of McDougall reported the catalytic converter stolen from her vehicle.

 An employee of an auto parts store in the 9100 block of Joseph Campau was taken into custody by officers assisting the store’s loss prevention auditors in a case of embezzlement.

From Friday, July 27:

 Officers responded to suspicious fires in Veterans Park.

 A woman living in the 3100 block of Caniff reported that, as she was walking up to her residence at around 2 p.m., an unknown black male approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground in an attempt to rob her.

From Saturday, July 28:

 A man reported the theft of two bikes from the backyard of an address in the 2012 block of Belmont, from about a week earlier. One of the bikes was found at #1 Pawn Shop.

 A woman came into the station to report the theft of the catalytic converter from off of her 2005 Chevy Cavalier, which was parked in front of a home in the 3300 block of Edwin between July 21 and July 27.

 A woman came into the station to report that a black male, 5’8” and wearing black shorts and a white shirt, grabbed the necklace from her neck and fled with it while she had been walking on Trowbridge at Brombach at 1:30 p.m.

 A resident of Milton St. was arrested after he broke into the garage of a home in the 3300 block of Doremus and stole an extension ladder.

 Officers observed a red Mercedes driving on the grass in Veterans Park, near the tennis courts. A check on the driver revealed 16 current suspensions of his driver’s license, as well as several outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions. The driver was arrested, and the Mercedes was impounded.

 An officer arrested six residents after observing them fighting inside Memorial Park at about 4:30 p.m.

 A resident reported that a tall black male, with facial hair, black shorts and a white t-shirt, grabbed the gold chain from her neck at Trowbridge and Gallagher, before fleeing down an alley at about 5:42 p.m. Evidence was found and tagged. Note similarity of suspect description and proximity of crime to the one from earlier today.

From Sunday, July 29:

 Officers responded to an attempted strong arm robbery at Evaline and Gallagher, and subsequently arrested a Blaine St. resident, after tracking him to Conant and Norwalk at 12:24 p.m. Evidence was tagged.

 A resident of Sterling Heights reported that a black male, 16- to 20-years-old and wearing all black, ran up behind him at Jos. Campau and Hewitt and pulled his iPhone from off his belt. Suspect then fled in a green Ford Escort, license plate CJK9349. Officers were able to track the iPhone, using its GPS, to a home in the 400 block of W. Savannah in Detroit. They were unable to locate the suspects, but did find the getaway vehicle, which they impounded.

 An employee at a business in the 9700 block of Conant reported that someone stole his iPhone 4s while it was on the counter being recharged at about 3:40 p.m.

 A resident living in the 2200 block of Evaline reported that a man unknown to him took several photographs of his 1998 Acura while it was parked in front of his residence.

 An employee at a supermarket in the 9000 block of Jos. Campau reported watching two black males throw a rock through the window of his 1999 Lexus where it was parked at Jos. Campau and Jacob.

From Monday, July 30:

 A woman living in the 11400 block of Grand Haven reported the theft of her 1997 Ford Taurus.

 A man was arrested in the 2600 block of Trowbridge for assaulting his girlfriend.

From Tuesday, July 31:

 At 3:37 a.m., witness reported watching two black males break the window out of a Chevy Impala (location not given), and then flee southbound in a Dodge Intrepid. Police were able to make contact with the owner, who stated that nothing appeared to be missing.

 At 3:38 a.m., a man reported being struck by a beer bottle by someone unknown to him while outside of a bar in the 11600 block of Jos. Campau.

 A man reported that someone broke into his home in the 12000 block of Selfridge sometime between 6:55 a.m. and 7:35 a.m., stealing an HP laptop computer and an iPhone.

 A man was arrested for retail fraud after he took some items from a drug store in the 9300 block of Jos. Campau, pushed an employee to get away, and then fled. He was apprehended at Jos. Campau and Lehman.

 A man reported the theft of his vehicle (not described) from where it had been parked on Lumpkin, near Danforth.

 Officers arrested a juvenile in connection with a bicycle theft at Jos. Campau and Evaline. Several bikes were confiscated.

From Wednesday, Aug. 1:

 At 8:11 a.m., a woman reported that someone had attempted to steal her 2004 Chevy Trailblazer SUV, sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. while it was parked in front of an address in the 11400 block of Klinger.

 At 11:49 a.m., a man reported seeing a heavy-set white male, wearing a black shirt, spray paint the front door of a party store in the 3200 block of Caniff, then flee in a gray jeep with a possible license plate of CEC4851.

 A man reported that another man had been digging holes in the backyard, in order to allow some stray cats into the basement.

Police also made the following arrests: During traffic stops, four for driving on a suspended license; four for present a fraudulent insurance certificate; two for drunk driving; two for outstanding city warrants and one for a 3rd Circuit Court warrant; one for marijuana possession, and one for narcotics possession.

They also made an arrest for for trying to pass a bad check at a check-cashing place.

They took the following reports: Two for domestic assault and one for aggravated assault; one of medications being stolen; one of trespass in an unoccupied home; and one of a runaway juvenile female.

They investigated three car crashes plus the hit-and-run of a pedestrian and an attempted car theft in progress; took two people for committal; reported a car stolen in Detroit as found; took possession of a found bike; confiscated a lawn mower from a man in an alley; and notified DPW of a missing sewer cover.
