Crime Watch … An alleged arson and reports of women screaming

A fire in the rear of Kabob House on Conant destroyed part of the building’s second floor in the rear.

It’s been a busy week for the police and fire departments.
There were two prominent fires during the past week, the most notable being the Kabob House on Conant.
According to Fire Chief Matthew Wyszczelski, this past Sunday, at 4:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a reported fire at Kabob House.
Even with the help of Detroit firefighters, it took almost two hours to put out a fire on the second floor of the building. No injuries were reported.
“Most of the damage from the fire was to the upstairs living area, although there was smoke and water damage to the first floor and basement,” Wyszczelski said in an email.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, and anyone with information is asked to call the Hamtramck fire marshal at (313) 305-4503, extension 225.
Last Tuesday, a Detroit resident was arrested in a suspected arson on Trowbridge, near Lumpkin.

Dionte Williams

Dionte Williams, 34, of Detroit, was arraigned this week, charged with 2nd degree arson. His bond was set at $5,000, and he was ordered to wear an electronic tether if he posts bond.
Hamtramck Police Chief Anne Moise credited help from the Hamtramck fire marshal with the investigation.
In another police matter, a 27-year-old Warren man was charged April 15 with an alleged carjacking that happened last December at Caniff and Fleming.
The driver of the carjacked car sustained injuries, but no details were provided about the extent of those injuries.
Besides carjacking, Karon Forbes is charged with committing a felony with a gun, and illegally possessing a firearm as a felon while being a habitual offender.
Forbes had just been released from prison last October, and was on parole.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash – meaning someone has to come up with that entire sum of money in order for Forbes to be released from jail.
Police Chief Moise credited the Detroit Police Department in helping with the case.
In other police matters, there have been ongoing reports for the past several weeks about women heard screaming. Screaming about what, exactly, is never explained in the daily police incident reports, which are sometimes mysteriously concise.
These incidents have been happening mostly in the housing project on the west side of I-75.

There have also been weekly reports of disorderly people, many times at places of business, which makes one wonder what all the fuss is about. And, speaking of businesses, there have also been ongoing reports of shoplifting, as well as customers causing other trouble for shopkeepers.
And now, with warmer weather here (excluding the rude return of winter earlier this week), complaints are increasing about neighbors being noisy.
This is happening throughout the city.
If you own a dog, this is a good time to make sure your backyard is escape proof. There are also ongoing reports of loose dogs in the streets.
It’s very likely a number of these are strays, which should make those who like walking their fur buddy – and what dog doesn’t like taking a stroll around the city? – extra cautious.
If you see suspicious people or situations, police encourage you to call 911 to make a report. The department handles dozens of these calls each week.
