Friends of Lili’s bar, help is needed

For those of a certain age, the former Lili’s bar on Jacob St. was the place to be, starting way back in the late 1970s, for rock-n-rollers, oddballs, hipsters, and lovers of good music and good vibes.
The queen holding court there was one Lili Karwowski, who became a sort of den mom for all us misfits.
She was joined by her sons Art, Alan, Chris and Mike who manned the bar.
Oh, the stories we could tell.
Time marches on, and our beloved Lili has since passed away. The bar was sold several years ago and rechristened as The Painted Lady. You can still hear both local, and visiting, bands there.
The family has still remained in touch with Hamtramck.
And now, we have learned that brother Mike is battling stage-four esophageal cancer, which has spread to his lymph system and liver.
We all know the maddening reality of health care, and its costs, in this country. In other words, Mike could use some financial help.
To that end, there is a GoFundMe online fundraiser going on, and this Saturday, Feb. 4, the new owners of the New Dodge Lounge, at 8850 Jos. Campau, are hosting a fundraiser.

A fundraiser will be held today (Feb. 4) for Mike Karwowski who is battling cancer. The event will be at New Dodge Lounge (8850 Jos. Campau, south of Holbrook).

The happening is being called “MikeyPalooza!” The line-up includes: the Polish Muslims, Ricky Rat Pack, David Bierman Overdrive, See Dick Run, comedian Lauren Uchalik and emcee Kelly Brown.
Admission is $20, but hey, if you can afford more, that would be greatly appreciated.
The fun starts at 4 p.m. – yes, at 4 o-clock because well, we’re all getting up there in age.
