Hamtramck is rocking all weekend long with another ‘Blowout’

Hung over yet? If your answer is no, you’ve got some work to do – there are only two nights left of the Hamtramck Blowout.

Now in its 14th year, the annual music festival has grown from an upstart affair to a major event. Over 200 bands perform during the four-day event, bringing people to the city from all over the state as well as from various parts of the country.

As in the past, this year’s Blowout kicked-off on Wednesday (March 2) night at the Magic Stick in downtown Detroit. The party continued yesterday with the first of three nights of music in Hamtramck and will go on long after the final show on Saturday night.

So you don’t miss your favorite band, we’ve compiled a schedule of tonight and tomorrow’s (March 4 and 5) lineup. And if you’re not doing anything on Friday at 10:20 p.m., check out Skipper’s Hamtown at the corner of Conant and Evaline – there’s going to be a full buffet spread of country ribs, cornbread, macaroni and cheese, pies, pork and beans and some mind-blowing music from The Fresh Tones.

The weekend celebration will be bittersweet, however. This is the last year that local Hamtramckan (and former Special Events Planner for the city) Eve Doster Knepp will be booking the event. But don’t worry – she’s assured us that the Blowout will keep going strong.

“I know that the Metro Times is committed to keeping this event tasteful and local – and if you ask me, you can’t beat that model,” she said. “The Blowout will be around for a long, long time.”
