Health Fair Has Something For Everyone

How’s this for a Saturday – you and your kids can get a freebie health check-up and spend the afternoon playing games and enjoying some refreshments?

If that sounds like a fun family day outing, head on over to Veterans Memorial park Saturday (Aug. 8) from noon to 4 p.m.

The goal of Family “Feel Good” Day is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle among the youth, adults and families that live in the community. By providing access to information, conducting interactive educational sessions and leading physical activities for as many as 1,000 potential attendees, it’s a chance to enhance awareness and motivate participants to make better choices in the future.

ARAMARK has a long history of supporting local community centers in more than 25 cities across the country. Last summer, more than 100 ARAMARK employee volunteers kicked off a partnership with Peoples Community Services by revitalizing the Hamtramck Neighborhood Center.

They painted, landscaped and built a children’s library which now houses over 3,000 books donated by the ARAMARK volunteers.

Activities in the park will include:

ARAMARK Building Community Eat Smart Zone: ARAMARK chefs and dietitians will coordinate and set up interactive healthy cooking and health and wellness demonstrations throughout the day. A special “hands-on” area for children will emphasize healthy snacking.

Children’s Fun Zone: This area will provide fun activities for children and youth such as arts & crafts, mural painting, hula hoops, games, face painting and a bounce castle, slide and obstacle course.

Adult Health Zone: This area will provide health-related resource tables, health screenings and mini-workshops for adult participants.

Entertainment: Family-friendly entertainment including a puppet show, Punk Fitness Kids and more. The puppet show and entertainment is provided by the Clark Family Players, www.clarkclown.com.

Additional participating agencies include: ACCESS (Arab American Center for Economics and Social Services), Friendship House, Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC), the City of Hamtramck, the State of Michigan – Department of Social Services, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Wayne County Health Department and Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency.

Oh, one more thing, this is a free event.
