Remember when it cost 22 cents to go to the movies?
Maybe not.
That was a long time ago, but it is what people paid to see a movie when they went to the local theater. And Hamtramck had a slew of them. They’re all gone now, but some fascinating reminders of those days still exist.
You can explore them at the next Hungry for History program Thursday, May 21, at the Hamtramck Historical Museum.
“Movie Magic” will be the theme following a sit-down dinner. A PowerPoint presentation will explore the old theaters, the stars and the movies they showed.
Dinner is $12, with $5 tax deductible. The program is free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the program at 7 p.m.
This is the second installment in the Hungry for History series. Last month’s program drew a full house and response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Even so, some improvements are being made to this month’s program.
To reserve a dinner, call (313) 893-5207, or email hamtramckhistory@gmail.com. Also visit the Historical Commission website for information on future programs at www.hamtramckhistory.org.
The museum is at 9525 Jos. Campau between Poland and Norwalk streets. Come on down. There might even be some free popcorn.
