The Hamtramck Labor Day Festival is just one week away.
This will be the 36th festival to take over the northend of Jos. Campau, and as usual it promises to be a fun time for all.
The festival kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 5 and runs through all day Monday on Sept. 7.
For three days you can see some of the best in Detroit music – for free – and enjoy midway games and rides.
In between will be plenty of cold beer and food.
On Monday at 1:30 p.m. the Polish Day Parade takes over for about an hour. The parade starts at Holbrook and Jos. Campau and runs north to Casmere.
We asked Michael Davis, the festival public relations guy, what he has to say about Hamtramck’s salute to the end of summer.
“All kinds of stuff!” he said.
OK then, do tell:
“The committee is very excited for this year’s festival! We’re very thankful for our sponsors including Eastown Distributing, Sterling Services, Hamtramck Public Schools, Hamtramck DDA, Empire Disposal, Wheelhouse Detroit, HATCH ART, McCarver Mechanical Heating and Cooling and many more.
“Interest in The Polish Yacht Club’s Canoe Races, sponsored by McCarver Mechanical Heating & Cooling, is heating up. We may see a number of new entrants this year. The races may be even more entertaining this year with the addition of tasty bloody mary mix donated by McClure’s pickles.
“The Fowling Warehouse is back this year with ‘winner-stays’ fowling in the streets, with a twist. Every evening there will be a 10-pin challenge with a cash prize. Two teams (from all teams that won three consecutive games during each day) will be drawn from a hat. Those teams will compete in that day’s 10-pin challenge.
“In addition to our solid music lineup, Tunde Olaniran will be performing Saturday evening. He was just named in Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top 10 musicians you need to know.
“The Golab-k 5K, Polish Day Parade, carnival rides and other attractions are all shaping up and all indicators are pointing towards an amazing festival this year.”

Well said Mike.
Come back to The Review next week for our annual festival guide.
