By Charles Sercombe
Hamtramck police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect who held up a pharmacy last Wednesday (June 10).
According to a press release issued by the department, at almost 2 p.m., a suspect entered Hoover Pharmacy  on Holbrook Ave. and when he got to the counter, brandished a gun and demanded “narcotic medications that were not prescribed to him.”

After getting the narcotics, the suspect then fled in a white Cadillac DTS with a sunroof. The vehicle appeared to be 10 years or older.
Police say the suspect is a “heavyset, black male, with black hair, armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.”

He was also wearing a blue jacket and pants with a white stripe down the arms and legs, “outlined with a yellow/gold stripe, blue latex gloves, and a black facemask with shark teeth on it. The jacket also had ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ written on the back.”

Anyone with information is asked to call (313) 800-5281.

    From a Facebook post:

“My encounter with the City of Hamtramck Police Department Wednesday, June 10th. 2020 at 2:00pm
After leaving the Chemical bank on the corner of Holbrook and Joseph Campu
I was approached by 3 police vehicles. 2 in my rear, and 1 pull up in front of my car. Immediately drew their guns, and demanded “I got the fuck out of my car”
I have 2 cops in front of me with their guns drawn demanding, again that “I get the fuck out of the car”, and I’m assuming the officers behind me also had their guns drawn. Next, I put my car in park…which I was terrified to do mind you, and slowly got out of the car. They demanded I put my hands on my head, and then on my car. A cop proceeded to pat me down and handcuff me for the first time in my life. The officer asked me “what I was doing here” & said “I matched the description of an armed robber that had taken place in that area”. Again, reminding you, that I am at a bank, which is probably the last place a person would go if they’re trying to get away with a robbery.
They did not ask for my ID, they didn’t ask any questions, just pulled their guns and demanded I got out of the car.
As they have me cuffed and are asking me who I am and where I am from, a report comes on over their radio, that they are looking for a suspect in a white Cadillac, and I drive a bright red Dodge.
The officers realize they have the wrong guy, uncuff me, and apologize and begin to leave..as they do, I ask for their name and bage number, and they tell me they can’t not give it to me and tell me to go to the Hamtramck police department. I proceed to the department where I raise all hell with their former police chief Max Garbarino.. He provided me with a civil complaint form which I will be completing and returning to the police department Thursday, June 11th with a list of demands, which includes:
A formal meeting with city council,
A meeting with the chief of police
    A meeting with the Mayor.
I’m beyond angry, and even more motivated to ensure there is change, beginning with the Hamtramck police department!
I will also be organizing some protests outside the Hamtramck police department until my citizens complaint is addressed and my demands are met. So please be on the lookout for those details.”

The city should establish a civilian review board.
Mayor and council should change their position regarding opposing the establishment of this body.

A civilian review board sounds expensive, unless its a volunteer position.

@all boards and commissions in the city are voluntary.
