School Bell … 3/24/23

Students at Holbrook Elementary School celebrated Pi Day.

Holbrook Elementary School
Holbrook Elementary School students celebrated Pi Day (March 14) with an assembly at the end of the school day for students who read the most minutes and books so far in March.

And speaking of reading, Dave Mesrey, who has been active with the Hamtramck Stadium Grounds Crew, recently visited first-graders where he read to them “The Cat Man of Aleppo.”
March is Reading Month for school kids.
Here’s what he had to say about the experience.
“I told’em, be good to yourselves, be good to your teachers, and be good to the animals.”

Dental school visit
Thank you to the University of Detroit Mercy Dental School for visiting Tau Beta to provide dental services to our students. Not only were students able to access cleanings and exams, but they learned about dental hygiene and how gum health impacts overall health.
Kindergarten Roundup
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Kindergarten Roundup event at the Hamtramck Community Center! We loved getting to meet all of the Cosmos that will be joining us in the fall. If you missed the event, not to worry!
We’re still enrolling students for the 2023-24 school year. Visit our website hamtramckschools.org to learn more.

Spotlight on …
At Hamtramck Public Schools we are proud of each of our students—past and present. We’re fortunate to say that many of them are still with us today!
This month we’re pleased to spotlight Ekram Sarkic. Mr. Sarkic graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1996 and went on to receive his master’s in education from Wayne State University.
He returned to his alma mater at HHS to teach Spanish and has continued to serve the HPS community.
