School Bell 8/19/22

From the Superintendent
Interim HPS Superintendent Nabil Nagi recently issued this letter to the community about the upcoming new school year:
The summer months always provide special memories to our students. Whether time is spent right here in the Hamtramck community or traveling, students always return with tales of their adventures. It’s precisely why, as an educator, I look forward to the first few days of school.
Not only are our hallways full of a vibrant excitement, but we get to hear about all the little things that make our students unique. So, while I hope our students, their families and our staff are enjoying their time away, I’m eagerly looking forward to the beginning of the school year!
Despite school being out for the summer, we have been active in promoting student success. Our activities over the summer months have included:
• Hosting a 21st century summer learning camp for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. Each student received a Kids Spark Education STEAM kit, made their own board games, used sign language, and concluded the program with a trip to the Henry Ford Museum.
• Partnering with the Hamtramck Parks Conservancy, General Motors and GHD to bring a three-day STEAM camp to students ages nine to 14. Participants learned about science, arts and sustainability around our parks from industry professionals.

Still to come, we’re gearing up for our free Family Fun Fair! From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23 at Pulaski Park, we’re hosting a free back to school event for all students, families and community members.
In addition to serving as an opportunity to meet Hamtramck educators and leaders, attendees will have access to community organizations providing essential services to local residents.
Students can earn a free backpack, school supplies and snacks while enjoying henna, face painting, balloon animals, and inflatables! Please join us for this free day of fun.
There is still time to enroll before the first day of school, which begins on September 6! Please visit our website at hamtramckschools.org to learn more.

Esports
As esports continues to grow in popularity across high schools and colleges, HPS would like to acknowledge the Cosmos Esports Club at Hamtramck High School.
What started in 2020 as a way to involve students while they practiced social distancing at the beginning of the pandemic, has grown into a team that competes throughout the year.
Esports is a fun extracurricular option that teaches teamwork, communication, strategic thinking and confidence building. We’re looking forward to what our team can accomplish in the 2022-23 school year.
