School Board appoints new officers

Hamtramck Public Schools welcomed its new members to the School Board last week, during its first meeting of the year.
And the board made new appointments.
The board’s new President is Jihan Aiyash, and the new Vice President is Showkat Choudhury.
Aiyash is the first Yemeni-American to become President of the board. She shares another first with her brother, Abraham, who is the first Yemeni-American from Hamtramck to become a State Representative.
His district includes Hamtramck.
The Treasurer is Obaid Moortadha, and the Secretary is Daz’Shavon Hall.
Trustees include Salah Hadwan and newly-elected board members Regan Watson and Ramsey Hussain.
Watson and Hussain replace former board President Evan Major and former Treasurer Dennis Lukas. Major and Lukas did not seek re-election.
