The coronavirus may have put a halt to a lot of businesses, but the Holbrook Ave. rebuilding project will continue.
In fact, the beginning stages of the work began this past Monday.
This is the second phase of repaving the majority of Holbrook, which began two years ago, which went from Jos. Campau to Conant.
This time around, it will be from Jos. Campau heading west to Lumpkin.
The street is being entirely torn up. While the street is being replaced, new water lines connecting to houses and buildings will also be replaced.
However, in order to make the connection, the city’s contractor will have to get into your house or business to complete the connection.
Forms will be delivered to each property, asking for permission to do this. Once you complete it, call Charles Smith at (734) 365-3553 for the form to be picked up. In accordance with the social distancing policy during this virus scare, you will not have to personally hand it to anyone.
This phase of the project will begin in May.
Garbage collection will continue as usual, as well as yard waste pick-up. Mail delivery will also continue.
Also being replaced are sidewalks, water mains and approaches to driveways.
If you are handicapped and need assistance in getting around, call the city’s engineering firm at (734) 759-1600.
The multi-million-dollar project is being mostly funded by a federal grant.
Hamtramck has to kick in 20 percent, which is being paid from state funds earmarked for street repairs that the city gets yearly.
The project is expected to be completed by this August.
But if there are delays, the project will continue through fall and, if needed, finishing up next spring.
