Hamtramck is never a pretty sight right after winter ends and the snow finally melts away.
There is litter everywhere.
But there is something you can do about that. On Saturday, April 25, the Hamtramck Beautification Commission will host its annual Spring Clean Sweep.
Volunteers will be gathering that morning and will spread throughout the city to clean up streets, alleys and lots. This is no small chore because the city is choking in filth from lazy people who think nothing of dumping their trash, old mattresses, used tires, paper scraps, fast food wrappers – you name it – on our streets and vacant lots.
The plan is to meet up at 9 a.m. at two locations. For those in the southend of the city, at People’s Community Services Center on Jos. Campau and Danforth, and for those in the northend of town at Recycled Treasurers at 12101 Jos. Campau.
Tools and trash bags will be provided. Be sure to bring gloves.
Refreshments will also be served.
If you can’t make it, do a little cleaning up in your yard, front curb area and back alley.

In other city cleanup news, the Common Word Alliance, an interfaith group, is hosting cleanups every Saturday in May. The program kicks off on May 2, 8 a.m. at Glory Supermarket.

Trash, in Hamtramck,is a never-ending battle, but picking just the fights one can win is not why we’re here. Count me in.
