Snowflakes were falling last Saturday night (Feb. 5), but that didn’t cause the young girls of Hamtramck to flake out. Despite some terrible weather, the community’s fifth annual Daddy-Daughter Dance was the most successful yet.
The dance, which was sponsored by the Hamtramck Recreation Department, was attended by over 70 people. With a “Princess Party” theme, the event offered the girls and their fathers a chance to enjoy a buffet-style meal, crafts, a raffle and lots of dancing. The girls also received a flower and a goody bag.
Recreation Coordinator Theresa Yorke said that she was very pleased with this year’s turnout. Saying that the Daddy-Daughter Dance is always a dress-to-impress event, she noted that this year – with some girls decked-out in princess gowns and their fathers in matching dress clothes – did not disappoint.
“I used to attend the City of Wayne Daddy-Daughter Dance with my father when I was young, and it is one of my favorite childhood memories,” says Yorke. “My hope is that these girls will feel the same one day.”
