Inauguration ceremony on Sunday for newly elected city leaders

Hamtramck will usher in a new political era this Sunday, Jan. 4.
That’s when the city’s new mayor, Adam Alharbi, and three city councilmembers will take their oath of office in an inauguration ceremony at the Hamtramck Public Library at 6 p.m.
City Councilmember Abu Musa will be starting a new four-year term, and he will be joined by former Councilmember Nayeem Choudhury and newcomer Yousef Saed.
Choudhury lost his previous bid to be re-elected two years ago after serving one term, but he was successful this time around in making a comeback.
Saed, who is an immigrant from Somalia, is one of the few African-Americans to serve on the council.
The public is invited to attend.
From what we’ve heard, you might want to arrive early to reserve a viewing spot because 200-300 people are expected to attend.
Doors for the event open at 5 p.m., and the ceremony starts at 6.
