In our opinion … The oldest trick in the book: blame the messenger

Things are pretty surreal in Hamtramck these days.
And if you feel like Hamtramck is spinning out of control, you are not alone.
The ongoing election fraud investigation involving some of our elected officials has revealed Hamtramck to be a city of dysfunction and corruption.
And from what our sources have told us, what is being exposed so far is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
On top of all this, the national and international media are picking up the election scandal and making Hamtramck look like a cesspool of corruption – which may turn out to be accurate.
Predictably, the apologists for what’s being exposed are blaming the messenger: the media, for bringing the ongoing – and widening — scandals to light. One such clown blames it all on “white-owned” media companies – as if this is a racial discrimination matter.
And then there is a convicted sexual assault felon also trying to make the media the culprit – as if we need lecturing by a guy who sexually assaulted a mentally-impaired teenager.
This city has never looked so insanely out of control.
And what does our mayor have to say about all this? For the most part, Mayor Amer Ghalib has remained silent. But he did issue a statement to WXYZ Channel 7 claiming the media has been “weaponized.”
Really?
Blame the media?
Folks, that’s where cowards always run to when they have nothing else: blame the messenger.
While no one has been convicted of a crime in this matter, and we must assume those charged are innocent until proven guilty, these charges are very serious and the alleged actions in question pose a threat to the integrity of our elections.
Where is the concern over that?
This is a time when we need leaders who know how to lead.
