In Our Opinion … A worthy celebration, and a crisis on city council

A couple of things are on our mind this week.
And there are a lot of developments that have happened over the past two weeks to absorb.
First, a big shoutout to the good folks at Passenger Radio – Hamtramck’s only internet radio station, which showcases the many fascinating tastes of local music fans who serve as their DJs and listeners.
The radio station recently celebrated its first-year anniversary, and we wish them a pleasant celebration and another successful year to come.
Artists and performers have long made Hamtramck their home, and this city has always been accommodating to those folks. Considering all the deadly serious issues this country is facing, it’s comforting to know that our creative voices are still speaking out.
Make it a point to set some time aside to enjoy the good vibes.
Meanwhile, good vibes is something our city council needs to seek out.
We don’t know what happened between the personalities on the council, but this is a council that is divided and distracted. We’ve seen this dysfunction before with past city officials, and if the apparent civil war that has broken out among councilmembers doesn’t get under control, Hamtramck is heading for a serious setback.
Come on council. Try to focus, and stop the petty bickering and general disrespect you are showing the community.
Elected officials are put into office to lead – not create a circus.
Everyone, step back, take a breather and hit the reset button.
It’s going to be a long four years that will lead to nothing accomplished if councilmembers continue to lash out at each other and spawn conflict.
Trust us: We’ve been there before, and seen where this leads.
