August is going to be a huge party month on Jos. Campau.
The activities for this weekend alone include a Bengali festival that will feature performers and food vendors.
Jos. Campau will be closed from Caniff up to Commor starting Friday, August 8 and running through Sunday night.
The official festival dates are those of Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9-10, starting about noon each day and going until 11 p.m.
A festival organizer could not be reached for comment, and few details were known about who is performing.
But, in the past, similar festivals have drawn thousands of Bengali-Americans from all around the metro area, including Hamtramck.
City Councilmember Muhith Mahmood said the organizers of this festival had previously been holding the event in Detroit at Jayne Field.
“I encouraged them to come to Hamtramck, to promote the city,” Mahmood said.
Bookending the month is the annual Hamtramck Labor Day Festival, Aug. 30-Sept.1.
