If you’ve been wondering if the city is fixing the potholes around town, the short answer is yes.
The city was set back a month after it was ordered by a state-appointed financial review board to seek a new contract for pothole repairs.
That’s one reason why so many potholes remain.
The city got back on track, pothole repair-wise, a few weeks ago, but there is still a slight snag, said Mark Ragsdale, the Director of Public Works.
The company performing the work, Highway Construction, can’t be here every day because it has contracts with other cities.
So, there are still some streets to avoid at all costs, such as the Hamtramck side of Carpenter, from Dequindre to Jos. Campau, and all of Casmere.
Holbrook was bad, too, but that street was taken care of this week.
Next up, said Ragsdale, is: Commor, Casmere and the last block of Gallagher from Commor to Carpenter.
Streets completed, besides Holbrook, are: Charest from Holbrook to Evaline and Gallagher from Goodson to Commor.
City Manager Katrina Powell said work will continue until cold weather returns.
And when cold returns, along with snow and ice, more potholes will appear, and the cycle will begin all over.

I keep reading and hearing about the pothole problems being fixed but so far the only street I seen done is Holbrook. My husband and I go around town everyday and I don’t see any other street being done. I have read that this company is only working ONE DAY A WEEK. What kind of company did the city manager hire that only works ONE DAY A WEEK. Hire a company that will work at least 5 days a week so that they can get the pothole problem fixed before the snow flies. This is the most stupidest thing I have ever heard.. Is the city going to fix my tires or rims or any other damage that is done to my car because of this problem. I don’t thing so. It’s a rotten shame that we pay our taxes that we get crap for services. I know nobody in city hall like the city manager or the council is going to read these comments. Shame on on the city officials.

Andrea Karpinski wrote on facebook that pothole repair will be on Lumpkin Street between Poland and Caniff, I would like to know when will this take place and why aren’t they doing Lumpkin between Caniff and Carpenter isn’t going to be done at the same time.that is just as bad as the other part. They are doing everything backwards. I thought they were suppose to do the Fire Routes first. The way they are going we will still have bigger potholes next year. What a SHAME.

The council should get a company to investigate and audit the road fund. Something have been going on with for a long time.I can believe the spend these millions on Hamtramck streets and they are still in a very bad shape.
