School Boardmember makes history for school district

By Alan Madlane
Hamtramck School Board Secretary Jihan Aiyash has been appointed to the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Resolutions and Bylaws Committee for the 2020-2021 school year.
She is the first Hamtramck School boardmember ever to be appointed to an MASB committee.
The MASB is a state-wide non-profit comprised of over 600 school boards, who join voluntarily. That number represents virtually all state school districts. The organization’s individual committees afford a chance for discussion on specific areas or topics.
The Resolutions and Bylaws Committee recommends policy for the entire membership to consider via its Delegate Assembly and as such, one would think, would therefore be considered of particular importance.
Aiyash is a Hamtramck Public Schools alumna who was elected to the Board in 2018.
“I am thankful to Hamtramck Public Schools for providing me, and my board colleagues, professional development opportunities, through courses and conferences,” Aiyash said in a press release.
She added, “I am hoping my commitment to MASB, through this committee, will influence my peers to get more involved with our state level work.”

Did the Review use a reverse negative photo for Jihan Aiyash – or is she wearing a campaign T-shirt designed to be read in the mirror?
