Still don’t have a Covid vaccination?
There are a number of places to get one in Hamtramck, and now the Hamtramck Public School District is also hosting a vaccination day.
The district has teamed up with Rite Aid to provide the vaccines.
Those 12 years and older can get a free vaccine this coming Thursday, May 20, at the Hamtramck High School Community Center, located at 11350 Charest – just north of Caniff.
The vaccines will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it is recommended that those interested to first make an appointment by going online at: bit.ly/3fmBbea
“At Hamtramck Public schools, the safety and well-being of our school community remains a primary concern. We want to encourage and remind families to stay in tune with their health,” said Melanie Pieknik, HPS district nurse, in a press release issued on May 14.
“It is vitally important that we take preventative measures against COVID-19, including becoming vaccinated and following safety protocols. We are grateful to Rite Aid for stepping up to support the Hamtramck community”
The district’s press release further said:
“The clinic is offering the first dose of the Pfizer vaccination free — regardless of insurance or not. The clinic is open to all families in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19 across the state through increased community access to the vaccine.
“One of the most important steps that can be taken to mitigate the spread and severity of the COVID-19 virus is becoming safely vaccinated.
“Attendees should plan to bring a photo ID and insurance card, if applicable. However, no one will be turned away or charged for the vaccine regardless.”
Superintendent Jaleelah Ahmed further said:
“We are excited to expand our partnerships with organizations supporting Hamtramck Public Schools. Schools are at the heart of the community and we appreciate those organizations that continue to seek out ways to assist our students and families.”
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive the vaccine.
