School’s out for the year

The school year came to an early end this year — at least face-to-face classroom learning — because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Students can forget about returning to school this year.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered the end of “face-to-face” schooling for this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
That means schools will continue to administer lessons, but via social media and take-home packets.
Those who are on track to graduate will graduate, said the school district.
Hamtramck’s public school students have been out of school since March. There are over 3,000 students in the district.
Public Schools Superintendent Jaleelah Ahmed said the district will provide a Chromebook to each household that has students enrolled in the district.
Only one Chromebook will be distributed per household, even if there are more than one student in the house.
She is also putting together a plan for teachers to be able to reach out to students.
School food programs will continue through the end of the scheduled school year.
In the meantime, the school board will now hold its regular monthly meetings via the online web conferencing platform Zoom. The next meeting is April 15.
You can watch the meetings by joining a link on the district’s webpage:
