This year, the Goodfellows fundraiser has special meaning

Without a doubt, the year 2020 has been a kick in the behind for just about everyone.
The coronavirus pandemic has caused financial hardships for many households.
Hamtramck has always been a low-income community, and it has been especially hard-hit this year. Many folks here were laid off, some permanently, and others have seen their work hours greatly reduced.
That makes this year’s annual Goodfellows fundraiser even more important.
Unfortunately, at the time we went to press, early this week on Wednesday, the Hamtramck Goodfellows were unsure if they could follow through on their annual holiday food drive tradition.
The Hamtramck Goodfellows will likely regroup and continue their effort later this or next year.
But there is a life-saver out there.
The Detroit Goodfellows can pick up the slack this holiday season.
The Detroit Goodfellows also needs support, though. What do they do?
The Detroit Goodfellows provide 30,000 holiday gift packages containing sweatpants, sweatshirts, socks, underwear, winter hats and gloves, a dental kit, toys, books, games, school supplies and more for many children.
While times are tough, and many folks don’t have much spare cash, any donation amount is appreciated.
Detroit Goodfellows, and Hamtramck Goodfellows, have been here for decades to provide low-income families support for the holiday season.
To make a donation, go to the Detroit Goodfellows’ website at:
www.detroitgoodfellows.org.
In the meantime, you can also make a donation to the Hamtramck Goodfellows and mail it to: Hamtramck Fire Department, 2625 Caniff, Hamtramck, MI 48212.
