Hamtramck’s party of the year is here.
In fact, it’s the party of the century considering that this is Hamtramck’s 100th anniversary of being a city.
The annual Labor Day Festival rolls out for this weekend, starting Saturday (Sep. 3) and going through Monday (Sept.4)
As mentioned last week, the festival features all the usual things to do, but it’s now been expanded.
That includes a midway and rides, as usual.
Music will once again be front and center, with live bands back to performing on two stages this year – as opposed to just one.
Big Time wrestling has also returned, and expanded to two days – Sunday and Monday each day starting at 3 p.m. – located in the center of the Jos. Campau festival grounds.
Fans of the annual canoe race – and each year there are more and more – will jam together on Monday, at noon, for another chance to throw water balloons at contestants and each other.
After the canoe race, Hamtramck will host its very own parade this year. The Polish Day Parade is now history, having relocated to Warren.
Be sure to come hungry and thirsty too, as there will be more food vendors on hand, and plenty of cold beer and other refreshments.
Labor Day weekend is the traditional time Michigan folks enjoy their last weekend of summer fun. After this, it’s back to school for the kids and, in a few short weeks, summer temps start shifting into cooler days and nights.
The festival is held on Jos. Campau from Caniff, north to Carpenter, and festival hours are noon to 10 p.m. Admission is free, but parking is up to you to find.
