City needs to take ownership of Paczki Day and be a better host

We hate to repeat ourselves on this issue, but it’s still worth mentioning.

Paczki Day has once again come and gone, and the town was filled with visitors and there were a lot of good feelings.
Hamtramck gets a lot of love from the metro area on this special day.
But does Hamtramck show an appreciation for all this attention? We said this last year, and we will say it again: Hamtramck needs to step up its hosting skills.
There is no reason that anyone should have to wait three-plus hours in the freezing cold to get paczki.
If our local bakeries refuse to do this, then the city should step in and install portable heaters for our visitors. Better yet, why won’t our local bakeries set up carts outside to streamline paczki sales?
Or also, go in on renting a food truck and sell local paczki from it.
And is it too much to ask for our sidewalks to be cleared of snow and ice? Really, this is getting embarrassing. Do you think the city of Birmingham would allow retailers to not clear their sidewalks?
Hamtramck is known as a party town, but it would be nice if we were known for appreciating our special visitors.
Paczki Day is our city holiday, and we all need to be better caretakers and ambassadors. It really doesn’t take much to make minor improvements that would speak volumes.
We’re not sure what it will take to make these improvements, but if we need to form a Paczki Day Committee, so be it. Someone in city leadership needs to take ownership of this holiday.
