Breaking news … Say goodbye to City Clerk August Gitschlag

City Clerk August Gitschlag

By Charles Sercombe

Add another one to the list of folks exiting from city hall.

On the heels of City Councilmembers Andrea Karpinski and Ian Perrotta, who both resigned recently, City Clerk August Gitschlag has been hired by the City of Clawson, a northern suburb of Hamtramck, as their new city clerk.

Unlike Karpinski and Perrotta, he’s not leaving for political reasons. It’s all about moving up the career ladder.

Not only does he have a new job, he also received a substantial pay raise. It is, at this point, a tentative deal. Gitschlag still has to agree to a counter-offer issued by the Clawson City Council on Tuesday evening.

We’ll have more details later.

Augie was a true professional – he will be missed.

He served as clerk during the controversial election fraud investigations of 2013 and 017 carried out by the Michigan State Police.

He was a point of contact for Freedom of Information requests.

He also was a local bartender.
