Community activist pleads guilty to sexual assault of student

Ibrahim Aljahim

By Charles Sercombe
A self-described community activist has taken an apparent plea deal in a sexual assault case.
First degree sexual charges were dropped by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office against Ibrahim Aljahim, in exchange for him pleading guilty to a second degree sexual assault charge involving a mentally disabled person.
Second degree sexual assault means there was no sexual penetration.
He was initially charged with performing a sex act on an 18-year-old male special education student who was attending Oakland International Academy back in 2019.
Aljahim, 42, who is an immigrant from Yemen, initially got a break, during a preliminary examination in Hamtramck 31st District Court, when Judge Alexis Krot declined to bind the case over to Wayne County Circuit Court because of a lack of evidence, as well as contradictory testimony from the student. But, she did also rule that the matter could be taken up again.
With DNA evidence now available, Aljahim was recharged.
According to previous court testimony, it is alleged that Aljahim took the student out of school and then to his car, where the assault took place.
At the time, Aljahim was a Community Liaison Officer at the school, located at Latham and Florian. He is no longer employed by the school.
Sentencing for Aljahim is scheduled for Nov. 15. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
Aljahim is free on a 10 percent surety bond of $500,000.
In the meantime, Aljahim has joined local Muslim elected leaders and community members in endorsing former President Donald Trump, a Republican, for president.
He has also been involved in setting up a Trump campaign office in Hamtramck, at Jos. Campau and Pulaski.

    Several issues:

    (A) the plea agreement calls for probation – NO INCARCERATION will follow at sentencing;

    (B) the criminal defense team had a forensic scientist prepared to testify on the poor quality of DNA testing results and theories advanced by the prosecution;

    (C) the prosecution witness who claimed to be a victim was deemed to be lacking credibility by Judge Krot when the initial charges were filed in 2029;

    (D) there has been no public explanation form the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office why it took over two years to re-file charges OR why they proceeded to a plea agreement rather than taking a case to jury.

    Why did the Hamtramck Review never try to obtain a statement from defense counsel or prosecution on the substance of the plea agreement?

    What does Donald Trump have anything to do with this story?
