Ex-city manager is now working back in Lansing

Kathy Angerer

By Alan Madlane
Hamtramck’s former city manager has surfaced, and in a nice landing spot.
Kathy Angerer has taken a deputy director post with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
And for those who had Angerer landing a job with the state on your bingo card, you won.
If, at first glance, it may seem a bit odd for Angerer to be going from a distinctly urban-related position to one focusing on the state’s rural community, well, then again it may not be.
Consider, for one thing, that she’ll still be advocating for folks who — as many within Hamtramck do — fall to the lower end of the earning spectrum.
MDARD Director Gary McDowell is already a fan:
“Kathy has a long history of public service with a passion for the key issues impacting food and agriculture like increasing high-speed internet access and growing our small businesses, while ensuring we’re building bridges within those communities.
“I am confident Kathy will bring that same commitment and support for MDARD’s programs, our stakeholders and staff,” he added.
Angerer’s history of public service extends to well-before her post here in Hamtramck; she was actually a state representative from 2005-10, as well as the executive director of Government Affairs at AT&T Michigan from 2011-12.
Not to mention which, she served Hamtramck as their directors of Community & Economic Development, and then of Community and Governmental Affairs.
Her appointment began this past Monday, July 18.
