The City of Hamtramck is reaching out to residents in order to fill the seats on several boards and commissions.
Volunteers are needed for the Construction Board of Appeals, the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Plan Commission, the Hamtramck Recycling Commission and the Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors.
With the exceptions of the Downtown Development Authority Board of Directors and the Hamtramck Recycling Commission, all members must be Hamtramck residents.
All boards and commissions meet monthly or as needed.
The boards and the commissions have the following requirements:
Construction Board of Appeals: Applicants should have a background in construction and a working knowledge of local codes in order to process appeals and consider variances.
Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA): Members consider zoning appeals and applications. Zoning and planning experience is helpful but not required.
Plan Commission: Members maintain the City’s Master Plan through the zoning map, land use controls, building/site design, land plotting, and street design and extension.
Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board of Directors: Members focus on economic growth in the downtown business district. While residency is not required, at least one member shall be a resident of the DDA district.
Hamtramck Recycling Commission: Members discuss programs and means to improve recycling activities in the City of Hamtramck. Members also facilitate the monthly recycling days by helping collect and sort recyclables dropped off by residents. Members are not required to be residents of the City of Hamtramck.
The Notice of Interest application is available at the City Clerk’s Office as well as online at: http://www.hamtramck.us/boards/NoticeofInterestForm.pdf
