The recent re-do of a councilmember’s censure provides some insight into the state of affairs of this council.
Namely, that it’s fast becoming directionless, as well as prone to making rash or poor decisions.
In a word: dysfunctional.
We say this not to beat up on, or shame, councilmembers, but rather intend it as a cautionary warning that, if this kind of spontaneous decision making continues, it could ultimately lead to pure chaos.
Councilmembers need to take a moment, breathe deep, and clear the air. If there were a reset button for them, we would urge someone to press it.
On social media, the public is clearly fed up with the constant arguing and disruptions caused by some on council. Even the mayor seems frustrated at times.
Come on, council.
This behavior is not helping anyone, and all it does is foment a deepening distrust among the community.
Let’s all step back and reexamine where this city is going – and, where it needs to go — especially now that we have a looming financial crisis.
