Once again, Hamtramck put on another successful Labor Day Festival this past weekend.
And once again, the festival made Hamtramck proud. The three-day festival provided a diverse offering of live music, great food and interesting vendors selling vintage clothing and goods as well as other unique items.
Best of all, it was all homegrown and folksy. If we had one complaint it’s that the City of Hamtramck doesn’t help fund the festival and instead festival volunteers have to rely on fundraising.
Tens of thousands of people visited here for the festival. That’s something the city should be financially supporting.
Having said that, a big thanks goes out to the many volunteers who make this festival happen and make Hamtramck a very special place to visit and celebrate.
Unlike our suburban neighbor to the north, Hamtramck keeps it real, while the Arts, Beats and Eats offers nothing more than overly commercialized blandness.
Our only wish is that the city comes up with more weekend festivals, although the annual Eid festival is another gem for the community.
However, with the restoration of restrooms and the creation of a concession stand at the historic Hamtramck baseball stadium coming soon, you can expect a lot more special activities.
In the near future, Hamtramck is going to be a major entertainment hub.
