Is Mayor Adam Alharbi still the mayor?
There have been posts on social media suggesting he no longer holds that title because the 37 uncounted ballots from last November election have supposedly been counted.
No, they have not.
We won’t know the fate of those disputed 37 ballots until the matter winds its way through the court system.
So, to answer the question about Alharbi: Yes, he’s still the mayor, despite some wishful thinking by some in the community – namely, his political enemies.
Hamtramck politics and election results have often ended up in controversy and turmoil. This speculation is not surprising.
We know it’s been five months since the mayor took office, but the court system doesn’t care about time lines. In cases like this, it’s frustrating that the wheels of justice grind ever-so slowly.
In the meantime, the city has to carry on. Spreading false information only adds to the confusion and political division in the community.
Get a grip folks, and let the court handle this. In the meantime, city officials can carry on conducting city business.
