The repaving of Caniff from Gallagher to Conant is beginning the week, meaning that portion of the street will be blocked off from traffic. Work is expected to be completed by the end of July.

It’s shaping up to be another summer of headaches for many local drivers.
The last leg of the Caniff repaving project starts today, Friday, April 11, from Gallagher to Conant.
Businesses and households were already warned not to park on the street or face having their vehicles towed.
City officials say that the work should be completed by the end of July.
Until then, that portion of the street will be entirely closed off as the work progresses.
Garbage collection will continue for this area. Place your garbage cans in the rear alley, as well as any yard waste.
Mail and parcel delivery will also continue. (Pizza delivery, however, well, good luck with that.)
Anyone with questions or concerns can call Charles Smith at (734) 365-3553 (and no, he won’t deliver your pizza).
Once this portion of Caniff is completed, the entire stretch of Caniff, from I-75 to Buffalo, will have been repaved. This last portion was arguably the worst section of all, with numerous potholes, and lumpy areas from past quick fixes.
In the meantime, city officials say business along that stretch will be accommodated. For example, a side entrance will be created on Gallagher to enter the Al-Haramain market parking lot, allowing customers to continue to shop there.
For those who live within this section, you’ll be able to use the Caniff alleys to drive on.
By the project’s end, not only will there be new water/sewer lines up and down the street, but also new sidewalks.
In all, the entire street will have cost $6 million to repave, which was paid for by a grant.
