School district owes taxpayers an explanation

It’s no surprise that Hamtramck Public Schools Superintendent Jaleelah Ahmed received another poor job performance rating.
After all, she hasn’t been at work for several months, and is in some kind of unexplained limbo-like suspension.
In the meantime, the district is being overseen by an interim superintendent – all while Ahmed continues to receive her $224,000 yearly salary for doing absolutely nothing but draining the district of money.
Worse, she has two more years on her contract.
The question for taxpayers is, how much longer will this arrangement be tolerated?
And why exactly is Ahmed not performing the job she is so richly compensated for?
The district refuses to discuss this topic, and apparently the district expects taxpayers to accept the current arrangement without question.
Enough of this.
If the district refuses to explain this mess, it’s high time the state step in and take action.
Hamtramck cannot afford to pay for two superintendents – especially at a time when the Trump administration is threatening deep cuts to the federal Department of Education.
Those cuts may possibly impact low-income communities like Hamtramck, and cripple this district’s ability to educate our youth.
It’s time for this board of education to take action and finally represent this community, instead of remaining silent and wasting tax dollars.
