Just because Hamtramck Public Schools will be closed for the next three weeks doesn’t mean the free breakfast and lunch programs have stopped.
Superintendent Jaleelah Ahmed released this statement on social media:
“HPS will provide an Outreach Breakfast and Lunch Program during the school closure.
“The meal distribution will include both breakfast and lunch meals to be picked up at one time. The grab and go meals will make it easier for families to pick up the meals.
“The meals are FREE and will be available from March 17- April 3 during the weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon.”
Most of Hamtramck’s students qualify for free breakfast and lunch services.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered all kindergarten through 12th grade school to close for the next three weeks due to the threat of the coronavirus spreading. Schools will re-open on April 6, but that is also when Hamtramck schools scheduled spring break.
