Hamtramck’s first homicide of the year was the result of an argument between a husband and his wife.

Police investigators could not go into details of the case because it is still under investigation, but they could say that on Jan. 12 at about 4 p.m., the couple got into an argument. The wife, Cynthia Fleming, 56, ended up shooting her husband two to three times.

Elmer Boyd, 67, was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

The couple lived in the Col. Hamtramck Homes on the 12000 block of Dequindre. Fleming has no previous criminal record.

Detective John Aiello said that after she shot her husband she called 911 and admitted to shooting him. When police arrived, she answered the door with her hands up.

Police found a handgun in the apartment.

Fleming has been charged with 1st Degree Murder and the use of a firearm while committing a felony. She faces life in prison if convicted.

A preliminary examination is scheduled for Feb. 21 in Hamtramck 31st District Court. Fleming is being held in jail with no option to post bond.
