Breaking news … Former city manager dies

 

Former Hamtramck City Manager William “Bill” Cooper has died after a short battle with cancer.

William J. Cooper
August 6, 1949 – November 16, 2022

William “Bill” passed away early morning November 16, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. His family was by his side for the final few days, and with him when he crossed over.
Bill was born to Bernice and John Cooper of Riverdale, Illinois. Bill attended Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois and, after graduating, enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving 8 years as an aircraft electrician.
Bill eventually went on to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master’s in Public Administration. A beloved public servant, he held government positions in Riverdale, Illinois, Hamtramck, Mount Clemens, and finally in Elk Rapids, Michigan, where he retired.
Bill is survived by: his wife, Diana Nee Lynn; his daughter, Christine (John) Clarida; grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, and Logan; Diana’s children, Shelly Ambrose and Scott Greenlee; her grandson, Zach Ambrose; and a very long and glorious list of friends and colleagues.
Bill’s family will receive visitors from 11:00am -1:00pm on Saturday, November 19, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel, 312 Pine Street, Elk Rapids, Michigan.

    My deepest sympathies and prayers for Diana and the family. He was a special man. Had a quick wit and a great smile. RIP Bill. Fly with the angels. You will be missed.

    Bill was a great city manager for the City of Hamtramck.

    A true professional who made Hamtramck and later Elk Rapids a better place.
