Breaking news … Man dies from self-inflicted shooting

A 66-year-old man accidently shot himself in the leg and died this morning (Dec. 16), say Hamtramck police.
The police department issued a press release today that provided some details as to what happened.
The department said the man was in his vehicle in the area of Caniff and St. Aubin and “accidently discharged the weapon as he was removing it from the holster, striking himself in the upper leg.”

His vehicle was in the parking lot of Quality Roots, a marijuana sales outlet.
The department stressed that “There does not appear to be any threat to the public.”
Speculation on social media sites about Hamtramck ran wild with various theories about happened, from a street robbery gone bad, to a stabbing or an attempted robbery at Quality Roots.
