Chief Anne Moise: A Hamtramck trailblazer

Recently, Hamtramck Police Chief Anne Moise announced that she will be retiring at the end of this month.
We wish Chief Moise a well-deserved retirement.
Police work, as most of us know, is not easy work, and being the chief of a department carries additional burdens few would know about.
Anne Moise’s appointment as chief, back in 2015, came at a time when the department was going through some upheaval. She brought a sense of stability to the department.
Her appointment was also long-overdue in the sense that, for decades, since Hamtramck became a city, no female had ever held that position.
Anne Moise will go down in Hamtramck history as a trailblazer.
Under her leadership — and with the help of city administrations, both past and present — the department has become more culturally diverse, and additional resources have been added as well, thanks to various grants.
Chief Moise has also made it a point to be available to the public, with special chat sessions set aside for residents.
More importantly, Moise has kept politics out of the picture during her tenure – which, in Hamtramck, is not an easy accomplishment.
We wish Chief Moise a happy retirement with her family. She can leave the department knowing that she made a difference.

She replaced Max Garbarino in 2015 and her tenure saw the city sued repeatedly over police misconduct issues.

Several former Hamtramck officers faced criminal charges during her leadership – and at least one of those has gone to prison.

    Recall the COBRA unit issues.
