Crime Log is a compilation of the most interesting or newsworthy items as selected from the Hamtramck Police Department’s Intelligence Reports from between the dates of Wednesday, July 4, and Wednesday, July 11.
From Wednesday, July 4:
A woman was arrested for receiving and concealing a vehicle that had been reported stolen, following a traffic stop at Conant and Casmere at about 12:15 a.m. The car was then impounded, and Detroit Police were notified of the vehicle’s recovery.
A woman reported that her brother’s 2001 Chevrolet Impala, license plate number BKF9893, was taken from the 11600 block of Charest sometime between June 29 at 11 p.m. and June 30 at 9 a.m. No word on why the delay in reporting the crime.
A man reported that he was assaulted and robbed by three Arabic males while in the alley north of Caniff near McDougall earlier today, between midnight and 1 a.m. Reported taken from him were two silver chain-link bracelets, his cell phone, and his wallet containing his Bank of America debit card.
A man reported the theft of his 1999 Chevy Tahoe SUV, license plate 1BAX22, from the 2700 block of Florian earlier today at approximately 3:30 a.m.
A man reported that someone opened an insurance policy in his name, and then collected on a claim for a house in the 12800 block of Klinger in Detroit. The man stated that he does not own a home in Detroit, and never took out any policy through this insurer.
Patrolling officers arrested a man after they observed him sleeping in a 2002 Toyota with an open 40-ounce bottle of malt liquor at Jos. Campau and Evaline. The car exhibited damage consistent with having been stolen, and also heavy front-end accident damage, which appeared recent. The vehicle was registered to someone in Dearborn Heights. It was impounded.
While investigating a disturbance in the 3300 block of Edwin, responding officers arrested a Caniff St. resident on an outstanding Hamtramck warrant, as well as for public intoxication and trespassing.
A woman reported the theft of her 2003 Dodge Durango SUV, license plate number BMZ5344, at about 6:15 p.m. Officers were able to recover this SUV for her, sitting unoccupied at Jos. Campau and Evaline a short while later.
From Thursday, July 5:
A man was arrested after a woman reported that he broke into her home in the 11500 block of Fleming and passed out on the kitchen floor, where responding officers found him, still in the same spot.
A woman living in the 3900 block of Trowbridge reported being assaulted by a man known to her, who lived across the street. The man then fled the area.
A man stated that he was intentionally struck with a “roman candle” type of firework by a man known to him, while he was walking in the area of Holbrook and Mitchell.
A man living in the 2700 block of Evaline reported the theft of his vehicle, which was not described in any way in the report.
A man living somewhere on Miller reported a break-in, followed by a subsequent attempt at the theft of his refrigerator at about 6:15 p.m. on this date.
From Friday, July 6:
At 4 p.m., officers arrested a man attempting to cash a fraudulent check at a store in the 12100 block of Conant.
From Saturday, July 7:
A man reported that someone threw a rock at his 2002 Ford Taurus, damaging the rear passenger window, at about 12:30 a.m. back on July 3 near the area of Casmere and Fleming. It is unknown why he waited four days to report the incident.
At 12:10 p.m., a woman living in an apartment in the 12000 block of Selfridge stated that someone broke in sometime yesterday between 5 a.m. and midnight, taking her laptop computer and all the frozen food out of the refrigerator.
Officers took a report of someone using their vehicle to strike two Florian St. residents in the 2200 block, after an argument over the ownership of a cat. The victims refused EMS assistance.
From Sunday, July 8:
Officers arrested a passenger of a 2006 Land Rover, which had initially been stopped for a traffic infraction at Caniff and Lumpkin, after the man fled on foot. He was arrested for an outstanding 16th Circuit Court (Macomb County) warrant related to a break-in. Suspected marijuana, plus some currency, were recovered at the scene.
Officers arrested a resident of Selkirk St. for larceny from a building after he stole money from the tip jar at a pizza carry-out business in the 10200 block of Conant. The man was also cited for obstructing officers and for public urination.
From Monday, July 9:
A man was arrested at a gas station in the 9500 block of Conant for disturbing the peace by refusing to leave the area, and then also for providing false information to officers.
From Tuesday, July 10:
A man was killed in the street at about 12:28 a.m., after being chased by one or more gunman to the area of Commor and Selfridge, and shot multiple times. One suspect is being described as a black male, wearing all black including a black mask. This (or these) suspect(s) then fled in a dark blue, 4-door car, possibly a Hyundai.
In a related incident, a man was then arrested just before 4 a.m. at that same Commor/Selfridge location for obstructing police, after he walked into the crime scene and then refused to leave.
Someone reported that 27 laptop computers were taken from a school in the 2300 block of Alice sometime between July 3 at 12:30 a.m., and yesterday at 8 a.m.
A woman reported the theft of two Kent bicycles, a Razor scooter and a Huffy scooter from an address in the 2900 block of Roosevelt, sometime between yesterday at 10:30 p.m. and today at 8 a.m.
A man reported that another man had attempted to assault him back on July 9 at about 11 p.m., at an address in the 2600 block of Pulaski.
From Wednesday, July 11:
A man, address not given, reported that someone broke into his 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck and stole an Apple iPad laptop computer.
In addition, during this time period, officers made the following arrests: (During traffic stops) one for possession of heroin, one for possession of narcotics paraphernalia, one for marijuana (and driving without ever obtaining a license); one for assault; three for outstanding Hamtramck warrants, plus one for a felony warrant; another including public intoxication and trespass, and two others including driving on suspended licenses, as well as one made at Dickerson jail and one brought in by CN Railroad Police; four arrests for presenting officers with fraudulent auto insurance, and two more for driving on suspended licenses.
They took reports of four other assaults (where one party was known to the other) and one where that was unclear; took reports of five automobile accidents, plus another with injuries, two more that were hit-and-runs, and one involving property damage; took reports of two incidents of the same business receiving counterfeit checks; one report of harassment by the internet and two by phone; one report of theft of property by someone known to the victim, and well as three cases where the suspect wasn’t known.
Finally, officers recovered one stolen vehicle and one stolen wallet in separate incidents; transported three persons for committal; investigated an open door on an abandoned house; completed a Michigan Liquor Control Commission inspection on a bar in the 2700 block of Yemans; took a report of a suspicious situation at a strip mall in the 9000 block of Jos. Campau; and notified the DPW about three separate instances of traffic lights out due to severe weather or heat, as well a large fallen tree blocking a sidestreet in the 11700 block of Moran.
