Election season has begun

And now, the question of this political season is known.
Yes, Mayor Karen Majewski is seeking another term, and, if elected, she will be Hamtramck’s longest serving mayor.
But she has some competition – as usual.
As of Tuesday — the deadline for candidates to file for the offices of mayor and city council — Majewski is facing the following challengers:
City Councilmember Saad Almasmari, Review Publisher John Ulaj, perennial mayoral candidate Asm Rahman, and newcomer Amer Mahmoud.
This could change by the Friday deadline for candidates to withdraw.
For council, which has three wide-open seats, the following candidates are running: Amanda Jaczkowski, Adam Albarmaki, Cody Lown, Lynn Blasey, Khalil A. Refai, Armani Asad, Muhith Mahmood, and former councilmember Abu Musa.
They, too, have until Friday to withdraw from the race.
All of the terms are for four years.
Those staying the races, and word is one or more will be dropping out, will all face off in the Aug. 3 primary election, which is where the mayoral field of candidates gets whittled down to two, and the council race down to six.
There are three open council seats because two councilmembers resigned recently, and Saad Almasmari has opted to seek the mayor’s position.
