For some in Hamtramck, social distancing needs practice

In last week’s City Life column about how residents are reacting to the coronavirus outbreak, it was noted that we need to practice social distancing more.
It may have been understated that there is a serious problem here of folks not observing it.
We say this in light of Hamtramck’s ever-increasing number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease that coronavirus causes.
We are now over 60 by the time we went to press on Thursday.
We see far too many people not keeping their distance in our markets, and have seen young boys playing with each other in the alleys.
This social contact is exactly why this hideous – and highly contagious – disease can spread so easily.
You can become infected, but not experience any symptoms for up to 10 days. During that time, you can infect others, even when you don’t feel sick.
And then those folks can infect more folks, and so on and so on.
There was also a police report a group of males gathering late at night in the back of a Jos. Campau barbershop for a hookah party. Talk about a recipe for disaster in spreading this disease.
Folks, what in the world are you thinking?
Hamtramck, get serious about staying at home, and when you absolutely need to go out and get groceries, or gas for the car, or do your banking, mind your distance.
