Hamtramck students well represented in essay contest

In an essay contest open to all students and all schools in Metropolitan Detroit for grades 4-8, HPS had two of the five winners out of approximately 5000 entries. The essay’s theme was “if you had to create an all new business or invention…what would you create?” “How would this business or invention impact your community?”

The contest is part of The Ford Freedom Awards program sponsored by the Ford Motor Company in cooperation with the Charles Wright Museum of African American History.

The two winning writers were on both Channel 7 and Channel 4. The essay contest winners are 4th grader Logan Hughes and 5th grader Majdi Chowdhury. Logan received a US savings bond for $250 and Majdi received a bond for $2,500. Both students attend Dickinson East. Congratulations to Logan’s current teacher (Mr. Fraser) and Majdi’s current teacher (Mrs. Klikovac)and to all former teachers of those two students.

Kosciuszko school also was represented. 7th grader Tazia Miah (Mrs. Smith) earned an “honorable mention.” Congratulations to Tazia’s current and former teachers also. Her prize was an all expenses paid field trip for her class to the awards program. During the program Kosciuszko students competed on stage against other schools in a “destroy, build, destroy” competition in which the objective was to build a car. Kosciuszko did an excellent job representing HPS.
