Finally, the northend of town has a much-needed service available.
We’re talking about the need for a laundromat, one of which just opened at the newly constructed commercial site at Jos. Campau and Casmere.
It’s called T&J Laundromat, and the initials of the business represents owners Tom and Joseph Lulgjuraj. Tom is the son of Mario Lulgjuraj, and Joseph is the son of Nick Lulgjuraj.
Nick and Mario, who funded the commercial expansion housing the laundromat, have been a two-man economic development powerhouse in town, having already rehabbed and expanded several commercial properties.
They also own one of the most popular local restaurants, Maine Street, which is just a short walk from the new laundromat.
And that’s where things can come in handy for those doing a load of wash.
This is a high-tech operation where you can download an app on your phone to monitor how much longer you have to wait for the washer to finish while you tool around town — or maybe enjoy a meal at Maine Street.
Tom says the idea of running a laundromat popped up when he was talking with a friend in a garage about how it can be profitable, and fulfill a need in the community.
“We knew of other people who own laundromats who are making money,” Tom Lulgjuraj. “We did research, looked at the demographics, and it made sense.”
He added: “We’re giving the community what they need.”
At the grand opening ceremony, Mayor Amer Ghalib said that there are almost weekly openings of new businesses, and this latest opening is proof that Hamtramck “is a thriving community.”
(The Laundromat is located at 11602 Jos. Campau, and is open every day of the week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. There are 10 washers and 10 dryers available.)
