MLK Day celebration rescheduled

By Charles Sercombe
Winter weather isn’t going to stop this year’s celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The Jan. 15 event had to be scrubbed because of the extreme cold.
But now the Concerned Women of Hamtramck, in conjunction with the Hamtramck Public School District, will try again on Feb. 19.
The details are the same as before.
It goes from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on that date, at the Hamtramck Community Center, 11350 Charest St.
This is the 26th year for the celebration. As in prior years, the breakfast will be followed by a talent show put on by students from the district, any age K-12. The showcase’s theme this year is, “A Change is Gonna Come.”
Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students ages 13-18, and ages 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite, but also from the HPSD Administrative Office or from the main offices of each individual school.
The idea behind the event’s theme and title this year is to promote better futures for all HPSD students.
