Thanks to many, city’s historic stadium will shine

Score another victory for Hamtramck.
An anticipated federal grant worth over $650,000 was finally awarded to the city recently, and this money will allow restrooms to be built at Veterans Park.
The restrooms will be installed in an existing building near Hamtramck’s historic baseball stadium.
This grant is one of several obtained by the city in recent years to help restore the park and the stadium. We have a number of volunteers, city officials and school officials to thank for these grants.
Ever since it was discovered that the stadium is one of just a handful left in the country that was once home to the legendary Negro baseball league, there has been growing interest in preserving it.
There are huge plans to make this stadium shine again, not only to serve as a ball field but also as an entertainment complex. When those plans come to fruition, Hamtramck can boast of having one more attraction to lure visitors.
Hamtramck has come a long way in recent years, from repaving streets to replacing the city’s aging water lines. This is yet another feather in our collective cap.
